Bedroom Design ... planning bedroom furniture around corners

There are a number of ways to plan bedroom furniture around corners - lets start first with wardrobes:

Corner WardrobeThe "L" shape Corner Wardrobe.

The standard way of placing wardrobes around a corner, supplied as a double carcase with a single door (either left or right hand), and a corner post to butt up against the return robe.

There is normally a void at the end of the robe to allow for easy placement into a "non square" corner.

Best utilised for hanging long clothes because access into the corner is slightly restricted, and as long clothes are used least ... slide them up into the corner.

Note! Frame constructed "L" shaped wardrobes can be "open right through" to allow easier access.

diagonal Corner WardrobeThe 45 degree Corner Wardrobe.

A softer looking way to deal with a corner, but it only looks good with robes each side and takes up a lot of space.

This method produces an extremely deep robe with a massive shelf above. (Again, best utilised for hanging long clothes).

Both frame and carcase construction will require side panels to give the structure rigidity, so an "open right through" corner is not viable.

Note! Looks great with a full length mirror door that can be seen from all angles.

Stable WardrobeThe Stable Wardrobe.

Supplied with one long door and one short door with blanking panel, allowing the positioning of low furniture against the panel.

The short "stable" door then opens over the low furniture below.

This means you can make better use of space as it is not necessary to leave space for both doors to open.

Normally used for hanging long clothes, as they drop into the area behind the blank panel.

You can also go round the bend with low bedroom furniture, as follows:

Bedroom Corner CabinetThe "L" shape corner cabinet.

Basically a scaled down version of the blind corner wardrobe robe.

The void space is intentional to avoid problems with "non square" corners.

Access is provided into the corner under the lowline furniture top.

A bit of a "glory hole" ... but great for storing all those things you only need once a year.

Note! Avoid having door & drawer combination as a full height cupboard door will provide easier access.

Corner Dressing TableThe 45 degree dressing table.

A soft looking corner solution that can be supplied with or without a slim drawer underneath the top.

It is possible to position a complete set of drawers underneath, and as it creates a much deeper Worktop area it is a popular place to position a TV

Only looks good with a reasonable length of furniture placed at each side

Note! Remember to purchase matching end panels for the adjacent cupboards

You may have noticed a theme developing with corner wardrobes ... and that is they are best suited to hanging long clothes in.

Tip! ... It's not a bad idea to use the more restricted space in corners as seasonal storage for hanging up your long clothes, i.e. in the summer hang your coats in the corner, and swap them over with long summer dresses in the winter.
